This past weekend at South by Southwest (SXSW), Darkblock hosted an 8-hour SXSW day show with performances by Peelander-Z, Mr. Lewis & The Funeral 5, Thee Idylls, and many more. Over 900 people attended between in-person guests, YouTube Live streamers, and our metaverse venue provided by Spatial and ISOBLOCK! This was the only VR, live streamed, and in-person party held during SXSW 2022.
The event was co-sponsored by Chicken Ranch Records, a local Austin record label, and was held at the legendary “Hole in the Wall” music venue. Musical performers from India, Japan, Ireland, and Georgia state created an atmosphere long missed in the two years since SXSW was last held.
The event was live streamed on Youtube Live for our partners and friends who were unable to make it to Texas. Watch the event here!
Last but definitely not least, we wanted to create a VR venue where participants could hang out and join in the fun. To accomplish this, we partnered with the industry leading metaverse platform, Spatial. The digital venue in Spatial was provided by an NFT rental, similar to a physical venue rented in meatspace. The Darkblock party was held in the amazing NFT designed by ISOBLOCK. The NFT was a warehouse sized venue complete with a jumbotron livestream of the event and numerous nooks and crannies for exploring artist NFTs.

Darkblock gives creators more control over the distribution of their content. Comics, ebooks, podcasts, music, movies, journalism, pay-per-view, YouTube, OnlyFans, Patreon, influencer content, metaverse assets — and more — will all require access control to become viable NFT markets. Whether it’s through sales, ad revenue or rentals, we aim to guarantee the flow of income to creators by letting them hold the keys to their content.
